News Article: Man charged with murder of grandad

A 29-year-old Romanian man has been charged with the murder of Michael Gannon in Skerries, Co Dublin, last Thursday evening.

Dragos Nica, of 37 Mourne Park, Skerries, Co Dublin, was remanded in custody on a charge of murder and will be held in Cloverhill Prison. He will next appear before a court on Thursday.

Mr Nica's lawyer, Dorothy Walsh, requested that her client receive psychiatric treatment and be placed under supervision.

Judge Patrick Clyne, sitting at the Central Criminal Court, granted the application.

Mr Gannon, 55, was stabbed to death at his daughter Jade's house in Mourne View, Skerries, as he was babysitting his grandchildren.

Mr Nica was arrested by gardai at his home which is next door to the house where Mr Gannon died.

The heartbroken partner of Mr Gannon, Nicola Lee, 42, previously said her partner of 14 years was a good man who loved his children and grandchildren deeply. She said she had rang him an hour before he was attacked to say she would be home soon.
